Ultrasound of the ankle

چکیده
Introduction The ankle is characterised by long tendons with strong muscles. Tendon failure occurs due to overuse of the tendons as a result of repetitive contraction of the muscles. It also occurs because these tendons often pivot around a bony fulcrum or beneath a retinaculum, creating points of friction. The third area where ankle tendons fail is where they join to bone, either directly into the bone or via an accessory ossicle, in which case there may be a stress injury between the ossicle and the main bone.

Healing of Complete Tear of the Anterior Talofibular Ligament and Early Ankle Stabilization after Autologous Platelet Rich Plasma: a Case Report and Literature Review
Lateral Ankle sprain (LAS) is a common sports injury associated with recurrent ankle sprain, chronic ankle instability(CAI) and post-traumatic ankle osteoarthritis (PTOA). Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) has been increasingly used forherapeutic applications in sports-related injuries, and is thought to stimulate tissue healing. We reported a case ofLAS with complete tear of anterior talofibular liga...
متن کاملThe effect of three weeks of deep sensory training with ultrasound on pain and electromyographic activity of selected muscles in futsal players with chronic ankle pain while walking
Background: Following a serious injury, microtrauma and as a result of microscopic damage in joint surfaces, pain disorders in the skeletal and muscular system develop over time. Pain in the musculoskeletal system, in addition to injury, causes secretion and fatigue in the pastoral structure, which leads to disruption of the neuromuscular system. Although the foot is the last part of the lowe...
متن کاملThe importance of community screening of asymptomatic elderly for peripheral arterial disease by Doppler ultrasound and ankle-brachial index
Background Peripheral arterial disease is an atherosclerotic disease characterized by an increase in morbidity and mortality. For these reasons early diagnosis of peripheral arterial disease is important. Ankle-brachial systolic pressure index measurement is frequently used in screening studies. Evaluating waveforms of distal lower extremities with Doppler ultrasound can be used as a screening ...
متن کاملUltrasound of the Foot and Ankle.
For specific indications, ultrasound is an inexpensive and efficient alternative to magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of the ankle and foot. In addition to the tendons, the anterior joint, retrocalcaneal bursa, ligaments, plantar fascia, and soft tissues can be imaged with ultrasound. Tenosynovitis, tendon tears and tendinosis, joint effusions, intra-articular loose bodies, ganglion cysts, planta...
متن کاملED point-of-care ultrasound in the diagnosis of ankle fractures in children.
In pediatric ankle injury, radiography is the current standard used to differentiate fracture from ligamentous injury; however, the associated cost, increased time, and radiation exposure pose a significant downside to this imaging modality. Point-of-care ultrasound may be an attractive alternative in this setting, as illustrated by this patient case. A 14-year-old boy presented to the emergenc...
متن کاملUltrasound-Guided Ankle Blocks: A Review of Current Practices.
Ankle blocks are routinely indicated for surgical anesthesia and postoperative analgesia of procedures involving the foot. Traditionally, ankle blocks have been performed by relying on landmark identification of nerves. The literature regarding the performance and efficacy of ankle blocks is inconsistent. This can be attributed to several variables, such as provider technique, differences in pa...
